Hi, i have an old collection of beermats all dating pre 1982. I ve been searching on the net for valuation of some of these, found a few of the more common ones, but some i just cant find anything about thats after viewing over 16000. Can anyone point me in the right direction to see if i can find out about some of those i cant find.

Im in the proccess of scanning all the collection, so some pics will follow.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Mambo,

I have a huge collection of my own too, although I am holding on to them for now. I generally see them go from anywhere between 50p to £4.00 depending on the topic.

I have  huge one that came from a Coronation Street set and a complete set of Hagar the Horrible finger puppet style mats, those would be worth more money I think.

I collected those and advertising milk bottles!  I elected for things that I could see where going to become ancient history fairly quickly!

Love Michelle x

thanks Michelle, tbh im not a collector. I was clearing out my mothers attic when i found them, they were orriginally given by an aunt who ran a pub. I m looking to sell them but dont want to use ebay as i may not get the full value.

I was hoping someone could maybe give me a website i could check as to the value of them..

THIS is the place to sell them LM if you want to keep most of your money when you do sell.  It may take longer than 'greedbay' with their extortionate fees here you only pay 3% AFTER the item is sold.

I don't know any other site like this which offers FREE valuations without insisting you sign in blood that you will sell them on that particular site either (and giving you a wild over-estimate of the price in order to get your listing).  Specialist Auctions does neither of these things.  You will not find better in my opinion.

Michelle knows her stuff, so I would take what she says as being correct.

You may want to Google 'beer mat collectors clubs' or something similar to see if you come up with anything. If you think you have some which are unique, then type whatever it says into Google to see if anyone else is selling the same thing, that will guide you on individual pieces.

If I find anything more, I will post for you here.

Hope this helps.

These are all things to take into consideration

Condition: How they have been kept will matter. Are they bagged, or kept in files or boxes?  Creased or softened edges can still be ok, as can ones with pin holes in... (some people attach them to a wall - indeed this was how I first saw them...en masse and got me interested) but these will naturally reflect in the price.

Some people collect mats internationally, so if there are any that are definitely foreign these need to be highlighted. Others collect for types of breweriana... lager, beer, stout etc... or just what they like.. (Some people only collect Babycham and that range if I recall, Ive seen go for more money - along with the old Babycham glasses)  If you feel there are sets, then you could list them that way.

It has to be said though, that most collectors will do swaps rather than purchases on these things.

When searching on Google, I find less is more and I like to search via the images tab too.  Try just the single word for results rememberiing that some call these a beermat, beer mat or a dripmat or coaster. There is also a British Beermat Collectors Society. http://www.britishbeermats.org.uk

I would say though that not to expect to earn fortunes for them.
The category here has about six pages of mats in them, all ranging in the amounts I mentioned, although there was one I saw at £5.  Good luck with selling them! You are right though, eBay is NOT the way to go!
