Hi All
I've posted this on Mascot Mania but thought i'd try here also.

I've picked up this solid metal item, I think nickel plated of a hare with what looks like a flaming torch in its hand. It has a bore hole up under its left foot where it would obviously be attached to something - does it ring any bells with anyone ?

Cheers

Mal

No, it doesnt ring any bells... but... What's up doc?.. that's a carrot! :D I'd say it was a Hare too...although there are some very big Hare lovers on here, that might say otherwise.. lets see.

I have a bear very very similar to this. My Heavy metal bear came with a bell round its neck. I have had it all my life. (34 years) He is a money box. I guess if your hare was a money box you would have noticed by now right? Big slot in the back of the head and an access hole at the rear. ........lol...no I am not being rude....Its just that he does look an extreemly similar model to my bear.

Good luck with this item

Hi Folks

Thanks for the replies.  Having looked at it again it is a carrot !

Definitely not a money box - its solid cast metal weighs 165 grams and measures 4"+

Just a thought - since the long ears do show it is a hare and not a rabbit, the carrot may actually be a torch in my view.

Could there be a connection between the olympics, and running (since hares are well known to run very fast?)

Maybe they were attached to the top of some kind of trophy to be given to chiildren in a running race?

Just an idea.

looks a bit Political to me, the Rabbit / Hare is wearing overalls, receiving or giving
a carrot / incentive, the other hand is in its pocket, where you would keep your money...just a thought

And to me, I just see an Easter gift!  Many years back, I used to have the Chocoholics party plan evenings every Easter and Christmas.. HUGE money earners.. and often there were gifts similar to this...packaged up with chocolates, eggs etc in baskets etc. At 4" that is about right for an ornamental gift.

Interesting ideas  -  needless to say (to the OP) you have checked for marks every possible place?  Maybe Cadbury's printed somewhere?  Maybe Google easter egg decorations or ornaments ?  May be worth a try.

Good luck

Thunk !  (me falling over)

Who would have thought it?  Well you did to start with.  And its from a 1954 model so must be worth a few bob to the people who buy old models and do them up I would have thought.

Maybe there is a collectors club for that particular car.  Do I remember you saying you had two as well ?

Well done in tracking it down.  Hope they're worth a fortune for you.

Kind regards

Erica
