9ct Gold vintage charm bracelet with Masonic Ball Charm. The Bracelet is approximately 18.5 cm in length and has a heart shaped locket clasp with an integral safety chain. The Masonic Ball Charm opens into a cross shape (see picture) of approximately 4 cm long by 3 cm wide. Each of the facets on the inside of the charm is engraved with various masonic symbols. The bracelet and charm together weighs 21.1 grams. Excellent overall condition.

Opinions as to value please? Many thanks.

sorry - I can't help with the valuation, but that is a very nice piece! I suspect you would want someone with specialist knowledge of masonic jewellery, as opposed to the more general stuff - but i am sure that someone will pop up soon to give you the info you need...

Hi Duncanc, I am the moderator of the costume jewellery section. Although real jewellery is not really my field I could give you a rough value based on the fact that this is a 9ct charm bracelet but that would not be very accurate given the masonic charm that is on it. The charm looks really unusual and both opening charms and masonic stuff carry a premium. I have asked the moderator of the Masonic section to have a look and should be able to give you a better idea once he gets back to me. Also I'm sure Judy, the fine jewellery moderator will be along soon to give you any information that she may have. Mary

Hello Duncanc,

This is officially called a Masonic Golden Globe and Cross Fob.

Here is what the Masonic Golden Globe and Cross FOB signifies.

http://www.phoenixmasonry.org/masonicmuseum/ball_and_cross_fob.htm

As far as the value of the Masonic Golden Globe and Cross Fob, they can range from approximately $100 USD to about $450.00 for near mint or perfect examples (unused or boxed examples will bring more).

The real key to determining the value of the Masonic Golden Globe and Cross Fob, is the condition, one must be careful to never overstate the condition of the Cross Fob, as Masonic Collectors as extremely meticulous (and fussy) about the condition of the fob, which is why there is such a variance on the price.

Here is the completed listing on eBay for Masonic “Ball” Fobs (I know it’s the competitor of Specialist Auction, but it serves as an excellent reference for completed items) to give you a guide as to what yours is worth…look for the one that closely resembles yours in condition, and that should set the value for you.

I hope this helps!

Regards,

John

Thanks for all your help John, fascinating stuff.

Duncanc, Add to this the value of the gold bracelet that it is hanging from (The scrap value of gold is currently £575 an ounce/28.35 grams) so you should be able to calculate that value for the weight of the bracelet and padlock and then add a bit as it is a nice bracelet and part of the whole. Are there possibly hallmarks on the padlock to help date the piece? All in all a pretty stunning item. This should go well Duncanc. Good luck with it. Mary

Great replies for you Duncanc!  Remember that it is much cheaper to list and sell here.
It is FREE to list, FREE to have 7 images including the gallery and just 3% Final Value Commission when it sells - you can also use the FREE Have A Haggle tool on your listings. I hate to think how much it would cost to list this on eBay - which of course you have to pay for whether it sells or not - plus their FVF is 9%! ((Shudder))

Good luck with it.. it is certainly a very nice piece. If you do list it here, I would be happy to add a blog about it on the SA blog for you. www.specialistauctions.blogspot.com

Hi duncan, Just got on line-can't really add much to what has been said. Everyone has given you the same advice I would have given you. Good luck it is really a nice piece and has been very special to someone.  Do you have any history,if so and you list it here do add the history with it. Judy
